All About Amangiri | Q&A With Andiamo Founder Dorie Fader
Aman properties are known for being located in remote, magical places, yet sometimes this makes the destination a bit of a trek to get to. How do you get to Amangiri?
Amangiri is located in Canyon Point, Utah. To maximize the beauty of its natural surroundings and provide a peaceful environment away from it all, the destination is remote and exclusive. Amangiri means peaceful mountain and the resort truly lives up to its name! Most guests opt to fly into Vegas or Phoenix and drive 4-hours through the desert, which is absolutely stunning scenery! If you aren’t up for the drive, Contour Airlines runs seasonal flights connecting through Vegas or Phoenix to Page, AZ, which is only 25 miles from the resort! Guests can also choose to fly privately to Page.
How long of a stay would you recommend?
3 nights in total. If you can stay longer, 2 nights at Camp Sarika and 2 nights at the main resort makes the PERFECT combo! You’ll want time to relax at the stunning property and take in the beautiful surroundings or indulge at the spa, but will also want ample time to explore and take advantage of all of the outdoor activities!
What type of activities and experiences are offered?
Hiking the many trails surrounding the property, renting a boat on the beautiful Lake Powell (complete with kayaks and paddle boarding!), helicoptering over Zion, Bryce or Grand Canyon, horseback riding, or an early morning hot air balloon ride!
When is the best time to visit?
Though Amangiri is a year-round destination, visiting during the months of March through June, or September through November are best for those who wish to get in some pool time while avoiding the scorching summer temperatures.
For the ultimate Western U.S. adventure, what are some destinations you’d recommend pairing?
Scottsdale and Sedona, Arizona are great options to add to your western itinerary. For those looking for an off-the-grid experience, we recommend glamping at Under Canvas Grand Canyon or Zion for a night or two. At Under Canvas, you will find multiple tented camp locations near the national parks. If you’re up for a bit of a road trip, you could pair Amangiri with some of our favorite resorts in Deer Valley, Utah like the Montage or St. Regis!
Amangiri is known as one of the most luxurious properties in the United States. How would you describe the accommodations? Do you have a room type you’d recommend for your clients?
The accommodations redefine luxury. Amangiri is one of the plushest of all the Aman resorts I have visited! You might even see a celebrity or two, as Amangiri is a favorite destination of Kylie Jenner, Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin. The pool suites at the main resort feature a private terrace perfect for stargazing at night and, of course, private pools which, at the moment, are in high demand. A five-minute drive across the desert from Amangiri brings you to the tented pavilions at Camp Sarika, and these accommodations offer extensive outdoor lounging space and private pools. It can be hard to choose between staying at Amangiri and Camp Sarika, so we recommend a day or two at each to get the full experience.
What was your favorite part of visiting Amangiri?
Hands down, the Via Ferrata climbing adventure. The climb up the sandstone wall of Studhorse Mesa was incredible, not to mention mentally challenging due to my fear of heights. Once we made it up the mountain, we crossed the suspension bridge spanning 600ft across a deep gorge – truly the thrill of a lifetime. The renowned Amangiri Experience Team encourages its guests to face their fears and experience life. I also really loved walking through the slot canyons off of Lake Powell. It allowed me to take the time to appreciate the tremendous beauty that exists within our own country!
Lastly, what about the food?
The food was wonderful! It felt very authentic to the destination with Southwestern flavor influences and lots of local vegetable dishes. The coolest part was their private dining experiences which really allows guests to sink into the environment they are in while dining in a desert cave!! Aman is in the business of always saying “yes”, so if there is something you are craving, ask and you shall receive!
